While South Tyrol is groaning under a new heatwave, a small town in the lowlands is becoming a cold oasis. The 18th edition of the Dolomitencup is taking place in Neumarkt from Friday to Sunday.
But even if the temperatures in the smart Würtharena are pleasantly cool, the ice will literally be glowing. Because, as always, the prestigious ice hockey preparation tournament will be a real blast.
EHC Kloten from the Swiss National League, Löwen Frankfurt from the German Ice Hockey League, Kometa Brno from the Czech Extraliga and HC Pustertal from the multinational ICE Hockey League will be battling it out to win the tournament. For all four teams, this is a return to the Dolomitencup after a break of several years, which has made an international name for itself as a renowned and traditional preparation tournament.
The Dolomitencup will open on Friday, 16 August at 8 p.m. when two heavyweights, Kloten and Kometa Brno, meet. Saturday 17 August will be particularly interesting for South Tyrolean ice hockey fans. Then the “local hero” of HC Pustertal will face Löwen Frankfurt (game starts at 8 pm). Curious fact: Frankfurt is the first-time winner of the Dolomitencup.
As always, Sunday is the final day. The match for third place will take place at 3.45 pm, while the grand winner will be crowned at 8 pm. Tickets are still available for all tournament days.
