EV Landshut rounded off its participation in the 2025 Dolomitencup with a victory. The traditional German club won the match for third place against Norwegian top club Vålerenga Oslo 2-1. The grand final will take place shortly in Neumarkt.
Every game, every period, every shift, every game situation provides insight into the further course of the season preparation. True to this motto, Vålerenga and Landshut went into their second tournament game with full vigour. After all, both teams wanted to finally make their mark at the Dolomitencup after their two clear semi-final defeats.
The Norwegians initially had the upper hand. They dominated the first period but were repeatedly denied by EVL goalkeeper Philipp Dietl. As a result, the score remained 0-0 after the first period. However, this was to change in the second period, when the German second division team stepped up a gear and a fierce battle ensued between two evenly matched sides. Landshut’s comeback was rewarded when David Elsner scored on a power play in the 30th minute to make it 1-0, much to the delight of the 200 or so fans who had travelled from Bavaria. At the other end, Nick Caamano and Jørgen Kalterud missed excellent chances. Once Vålerenga’s initial reaction had subsided, Landshut struck again. This time it was Tobias Lindberg who placed the puck in the corner with an elegant wrist shot (33rd minute). Star coach Uwe Krupp’s team thus went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
After the final change of ends, Vålerenga threw everything into turning the game around. The Scandinavians repeatedly pushed into Landshut’s defensive third with vehemence. This paid off ten minutes before the end when Leo Johansen Halmrast scored the 1-2 goal from the slot during a power play. Just seconds earlier, Caamano had hit the post. Vålerenga then launched a veritable onslaught, which the German second division side was only able to break sporadically with counterattacks. Mayhis Olimb had the best chance of the final phase, shooting over from close range with a minute and a half remaining. Landshut then secured its maiden victory. It was a more than satisfactory end to the tournament for the traditional club.
The grand finale begins at 8 p.m.
There won’t be much time for a break in Neumarkt, as the grand final is scheduled for 8 p.m. Then, at the Würtharena, the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League will face off against the top Czech club Dynamo Pardubice. Pardubice currently holds two Dolomitencup trophies, while Frankfurt has three. Fans can therefore look forward to a real treat.
