The Czech Republic’s ice hockey sensation is taking part

The prestigious Dolomitencup will take place in Neumarkt for the 20th time this August. The star-studded line-up is now complete: HC Kometa Brno, the reigning Czech champions, are heading to the South Tyrolean lowlands.

From Germany, the record-breaking Dolomitencup winners, the Augsburger Panther, and the iconic Eisbären Berlin are making their way here. From Switzerland, EV Zug is racing to Neumarkt. And from the Czech Republic, Kometa Brno is flying in. When the infamous Dolomitencup takes place from 21 to 23 August, big names in ice hockey will be coming and going in quick succession.

With Kometa Brno’s confirmation, the line-up for the 20th anniversary edition is now complete. And the organisers have certainly landed a big fish here. The club from Brno, a city of 400,000 inhabitants, is a major force in the top Czech league, which ranks among the best in Europe.

Kometa Brno and the Dolomitencup share a special history. In August 2016, the Czech club took part in the pre-season tournament in Neumarkt for the first time – and went on to win the league title in the season that began shortly afterwards. This marked the end of a long title drought that had lasted no less than 51 years. Eight years later, this curious coincidence was repeated: Kometa played in Neumarkt for the second time in August 2024 and were crowned champions once again that season.

So when Kometa Brno comes to the Dolomitencup, it’s always a good omen. The current season hasn’t exactly gone to plan for the Czechs, as they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by the reigning Dolomitencup champions, Dynamo Pardubice. Some South Tyrolean ice hockey fans have already caught a glimpse of the Czech heavyweights this year: in the Champions Hockey League, Kometa visited the Sparkasse Arena in Bolzano in September and suffered a 5-6 defeat after extra time against HCB Südtirol Alperia in a mad match.

So everything is set for a spectacular 20th anniversary edition of the Dolomitencup. In just over four months’ time, the event will kick off in Neumarkt, and spectators from near and far will once again flock to the South Tyrolean lowlands. Ticket sales will begin in the next few days. Tickets can then be purchased here.
