The wait is over: from Friday to Sunday, the 19th edition of the Dolomitencup will take place in Neumarkt (South Tyrol). A great ice hockey show is guaranteed – as are many prominent names.
In July, summer took a brief respite, but now it is showing itself from its very best side. In short: just in time for the Ferragosto holiday week, it is really hot again in South Tyrol. Only in Neumarkt is a small but pretty oasis of coolness resisting the scorching heat: From Friday to Sunday, the Dolomitencup, one of Europe’s most famous ice hockey preparation tournaments, will take place at the Würtharena in Neumarkt. Dynamo Pardubice (Czech Republic), Vålerenga Ishockey (Norway), the Löwen Frankfurt and EV Landshut (both Germany) will battle it out for the coveted trophy.
The action kicks off on Friday at 8 p.m. when Dynamo Pardubice and EV Landshut cross sticks. Pardubice is the runner-up in the Czech league, which is one of the strongest championships in Europe. Meanwhile, the Bavarian cult club Landshut plays in the DEL2, Germany’s second-highest league, and will go into the match as the underdog. Landshut is coming to the Unterland with a true ice hockey legend: Uwe Krupp has been the coach of the Lower Bavarians since this summer. As a player, he was once a Stanley Cup winner and played more than 800 games in the NHL. Krupp later served as German national coach for many years and then coached several highly decorated clubs such as the Kölner Haie, Eisbären Berlin and HC Lugano.
The second semi-final on Saturday at 8 p.m. is also set to be a thrilling encounter, with Löwen Frankfurt taking on Vålerenga Ishockey. Frankfurt played a key role in launching the Dolomitencup 19 years ago. Today, the Hessians are a fixture in the DEL, Germany’s top ice hockey league. We can look forward to seeing Vålerenga Ishockey in action. With 26 championship titles, the Oslo-based club is Norway’s most successful ice hockey club.
As always, Sunday is the final day: the match for third place is scheduled for 3:45 p.m., and the grand final for the Dolomitencup will take place at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available for all tournament days.
